Let’s talk Swim Spa Covers

With the increasing difficulty of finding a local swimming pool to visit that has availability, is clean and warm, many people are turning to Swim Spa’s / Exercise Pools to solve this problem. A Swim Spa or Exercise Pool allows you to swim at home, at your own pace, whenever you want, in a temperature that works for you, all year round at the fraction of a cost of a swimming pool.

BUT the covers can be cumbersome (we are always honest with you, it would be easy to push this fact under the carpet to not put you off investing in a Swim Spa, but we prefer you to know, so that you can make the right decision for you). Don’t get us wrong, some people stay with the traditional covers, which are like Hot Tub covers, just more of them, and are happy with them.

Some people, however, move to other solutions. The Covana Legend being one of them. Made and designed in Canada, Covana offer a very easy simple solution. With the turn of a key the cover automatically lifts horizontally to create a cover above you. Meaning that whatever the weather, you can enjoy your outdoor swim. The Covana Legend can be fitted when your Swim Spa is delivered or at a later date. It is not unusual for us to fit these cover systems to older Swim Spas too.

One reason we decided to invest in a Covana Legend for our Swim Spa, was Mum who swam every day, could not manage the Swim Spa Covers on her own. The addition of a Covana Legend meant she could and she didn’t have to wait for one of the family to remove the Swim Spa covers for her so that she could enjoy her swim or ask the family to replace the covers afterwards.

When swimming at night, I did worry that I would lose that open feel and not be able to see the stars with a cover over the Swim Spa. Fortunately, the Covana Legend is high enough from the Swim Spa that this was not the issue I feared it might be. So I can still see the stars and it still feels very much outside, without the rain from the wonderful UK climate. It also means when I am swimming, I am not looking at the covers that are usually at each end of the Swim Spa and fold down, very much like a hot tub cover, but you are often left with some of the cover sitting above the Swim Spa, which can be in your line of vision when swimming.

As the Covana Legend is opened and closed with a key switch this makes it very secure, so no one can access your Swim Spa unless they have the key. So, when you areaway  on holiday or are not at home, you don’t need to worry about anyone having access to your Swim Spa. This also means it makes the Swim Spa very safe when young children are around (although to be fair, they may struggle to lift Swim Spa covers). The Covana Legend is well thought out and does have emergency escape hatches in the extremely unlikely event the cover was closed with someone inside.

The Covana Legend is very well insulated and better than the traditional covers and another bonus is, that it will last the lifetime of Swim Spa so you will never have to buy another cover. Swim Spa / Hot Tub covers are a consumable expense and need to be replaced around every six years (more if looked after, less with poor water chemistry or not as looked after).

You do not need an external power supply for the Covana Legend as it is battery operated. It comes complete with two batteries, one to be used and one to be charged ready to swap out. Each battery can carry out around eighty lifts, so they don’t need to be changed very often.
